Ava DuVernay Receives Directors Guild Award Nomination

For the first time in her career, Ava DuVernay has received a nomination for being what we already have cemented her as in the Black community, a GREAT director. The Guild is recognizing her for her work on the amazing Netflix series, When They See Us, which she also co-wrote. The series was seen by over 23 million Netflix accounts worldwide.

While she is making hits of her own, Ava is also helping those who are coming behind her and that want their shot in the industry. Ava is the owner of ARRAY, which is dedicated to woman directors and directors of color.

It's amazing that this is her first nomination, as she has directed hits such as Selma and A Wrinkle in Time. With the awards taking place on January 25th, we can only hope top provide you all with an update of her winning the award.

Nonetheless, congrats on the nom, Ava!
