BET Awards 2019

The 18th annual BET awards took place yesterday evening at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by DC native, Regina Hall, she opened the show with some DC love! EU played, giving listeners nostalgia of the early 90s of the popular genre of music in the DC metro area. Taraji, also a DC native joined Regina Hall on stage in the opening act, as they danced to music they both grew up to. Regina also included in her introduction slides of inspirational quotes from notable D.C. figures, including Mayor for Life Marion Barry and pop culture sensation, Blac Chyna.

This night, once a year is a celebration of Black Excellence, also the biggest Black night of celebration in Hollywood. The nights gives us blasts from the past, as well as a look into the future of those who will be the future stars for years to come in our culture.

Mary J. Blige was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Nipsey Hussle (RIP) was honored with the Humanitarian Award, as Lauren London and his daughter, Emani looked on. We also were even taken to church by Tyler Perry, who gave an inspirational message that should encourage us all to keep striving and to keep fighting for what we want to achieve.
