OMG what if it happens??? What if a highly sought after recruit goes to an HBCU??? Well, we may have a possibility of that happening.... in three year. LeBron "Bronny" James, son of NBA superstar, LeBron James has just received his first HBCU scholarship offer and his second college basketball offer. The Sierra Canyon freshman guard received an offer from North Carolina Central University (NCCU).
Bronny is James' oldest son and he has taken the high school basketball world by storm, just as his dad did years ago. While pundits may think this offer means nothing, believing Bronny will sign with a top program coming out of high school in three years, it does not do people any justice to discount NCCU. NCCU has been to the NCAA tournament each of the last three years by winning the MEAC in convincing fashion each year. Their coach, LeVelle Moton is not afraid to go after top talent, as he recruit John Wall to come to the in-state school back when he was a top prospect. Ironically, Bronny has also received an offer from Kentucky, the school that was able to land John Wall.
While Bronny will have his pickings of what school to attend based on his talent and his dad's name, it would be a great change of culture for him to decide to take his talents to play at an HBCU, which would change the collegiate sports landscape of top Black recruits choosing to play at our institutions.
Regardless of where he goes, we are happy he has received his first HBCU scholarship offer to play college hoops.
