CoCo Gauff

For the month of January, we are highlighting the teen-sensation, tennis-phenomenon, CoCo Gauff. As it stands, CoCo is our youngest Power Person of the Month. She is perfect to kick off 2020, as she had a stellar January. We would be terrible if we did not include her in any posts this month!

This month, CoCo competed in the Australia Open for the first time, one of the most famous tennis matches in the world. Currently, CoCo sits at an underwhelming number 66th ranked woman tennis player in the world. We are sure that will rise because of her January 2020 accomplishments alone. For the second time, she beat her idol, Venus Williams in her first match of the Australia Open.

After beating her idol, she had her eyes set on beating Naomi Osaka who beat her at the U.S. Open last year. This was a grudge match for CoCo as she beat Osaka, the worlds number 1 tennis player at the time in STRAIGHT sets! She said of the victory with a huge grin on her face, "Like what is my life...this is crazy." While she lost her next match, this was no reason for CoCo to get down on herself, she is the youngest player ranked in the top 100 players at the tender age of 15!!! She has an amazing career in front of her and will for sure be the worlds number 1 very soon!

Also, CoCo competed in the doubles match with Caty McNally. The pair began competing last Thursday and made it to the quarterfinal round on Monday, losing two straight sets. Again, this is no reason to frown, the teen star is just getting her feet wet in what will be an amazing career for her. While we see she is normally visibly upset after losing, that's normal for an athlete that has so much emotion and passion for their craft. We are sure we will be congratulating CoCo for winning a major very soon and cannot wait to do so!

To close out the month, it was announced that CoCo will be joining Serena Williams on the Fed Cup team that will compete against Latvia next week! Gauff will be the second youngest American to play in the competition ever, only behind Jennifer Capriati, who in 1990 competed at 14.

Keep working CoCo, the tennis world is yours!!!
