Eddie Murphy is a multihyphenate, which is a person with many skills and professions. We all know Murphy is an actor, however, he is making his return to the stage with one mic. While being a guest on the podcast, Present Company with Krista Smith Murphy said he was coming back to stand up. He said, “Next year, in 2020, I’m going to go on the road and do some stand-up. It's time to get off the couch.”
Before the stand up however, the sequel of Coming to America is coming to theaters next year and he is also set to return to the Saturday Night Live stage any moment now. So, a return to stand up comedy is also well overdue and needs to happen!
While there is no further information on his coming tour, we can only assume the tour is a part of his alleged Netflix deal that is worth around $70 million. The streaming giant is set to produce an unidentified number of comedy specials for Murphy, similar to the deal Dave Chapelle signed with Netflix. People have also thought that Murphy portraying Rudy Ray Moore in Dolemite Is My Name also played a part in him wanting to return to the stand up stage. When speaking on playing the role Murphy simply said, “I wanted to have a movie that was really, really funny,”
With specials such as Raw and Delirious already placing Murphy in the category as a comedic legend, whatever is coming next is bound to have us crying laughing and on the edge of our seats.
