Kenan Thompson is finally getting the primetime show he's been wanting for years now. NBC has ordered the show, The Kenan Show aka Saving Kenan to be aired on its network.
The single camera show will be written by Jackie Clark, the executive producer of NBC hit show, Superstore. In the show, Thompson is a single dad, working to be the greatest parent ever to his two daughters played by Dani and Dannah Lockett, while maintaining a full-time job and a relationship with his father-in-law, who will be played by Andy Garcia.
Thompson will shoot this series during the offseason of Saturday Night Live, his main commitment to the NBC family. He also stars in Bring the Funny, an unscripted reality competition series on NBC. On the Ellen DeGenress Show, Kenan said he has no plans to quit SNL. Kenan said, “It’s the best job in the world, I can’t see myself just walking away from it like that, even with how busy I’ve been with the other show, Bring the Funny.”
For the first season, Kenan flew to LA and recorded 5 days of The Kenan Show and got back on the plane film SNL in NYC. When he gets a break from SNL, he shoots, Bring the Funny. Since this schedule is very tough to keep up with, some changes may be made from the studio, including moving the shooting of The Kenan Show from LA to NYC to better accommodate Kenan's schedule.
