Percy “Master P” Miller has done it again. The rapper and now business magnate is now the owner of his own burger spot, increasing his already large business empire. Big Poppa Burgers is now open for business in his hometown of NOLA. The restaurant made a cameo in Master P's most recent film, I Got the Hook Up 2.
Miller said in statement to Nola.com, “I started out in the music business, but my longevity is about creating brands and businesses, and you utilize your power to promote all your brands. You only can do that if you own something. This is about having a family restaurant and putting that business in the community where you come from.”
For those of you who may not know, Master P got his start as a rapper in the rap group, Tru. Shortly, after, Miller's solo career skyrocketed when he released the classic, “Make ‘Em Say Uhh” in 1997. Noticing the need for more ownership of black record labels, he started No Limit Records, named after a record store he opened in California. Miller also tried his hand at professional basketball in the NBA, playing for both the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors in 1998 and 1999 respectively. Now, the savvy businessman owns his own basketball league, the Global Mixed Gender Basketball (GMGB).
When speaking about his rags-to-riches story, Miller told BE in July, “When I was [lying] on that floor in the projects, I would say, ‘This floor is going to turn into [a] marble floor.' My entrepreneurial journey began when I was 6 when I would help old people carry their groceries and cut grass in exchange for a few dollars."
We all can visit Big Poppa Burgers at 3300 Fourth St. in Harvey, Louisiana.
