Marsai Martin Signs First-Look Deal with Universal

Marsai is known for her work in ABC’s hit TV show, Black-ish, and her upcoming movie Little, starring beside Issa Raye and Regina Hall. She is the youngest person, at 14 years old to ever receive a first-look deal with Universal. Marsai will be writing scripted projects for the studio, with the first being StepMonster, in which Martin will have a lead role. Peter Cramer, President of Universal Pictures said, “Working with emerging talent is a cornerstone of Universal's overall slate strategy, and Marsai is a star on the rise. She is not only tremendously talented in front of the camera but offers a unique perspective as a creator and producer that will resonate with all audiences”.

Marsai got her start into acting at the age of 5 and to build on her ambitiousness, she became the youngest person ever to executive produce a studio film, which comes out April 12th. Universal Pictures is excited about the work they will be able to create with Marsai, saying that working with her expands on their commitment to investing in and uplifting diverse and young voices is both refreshing and important, and I'm happy to be a part of that legacy. Martin will get to work with Will Packer, Malcolm D. Lee, Jordan Peele, and Kevin Hart.
