If you have not seen a Brinks Truck today, it's because they were busy unloading cash at Russell Wilson's home. This morning, the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks just became the highest paid player in the NFL by signing his new contract worth $140 million, with $65 million guaranteed. This comes after Wilson put a demand on the team, stating he would not sign an extension after the deadline of 11:59pm on April 15th. The team complied in a huge way, making the Superbowl winning quarterback very wealthy.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said, "Russ has been a huge factor in everything that has happened, and this allows us to stay on track with continuing to push to find that consistency. Russell is a unique player, a unique competitor. It's rare the way he's just so consistently connected to competing and battling. To keep that factor as part of the program is just a real positive for our fans and for everyone." Dedicated to his work and team, Wilson still showed up to voluntary workouts, while his agent and team brass continued to meet to iron out the details of this hefty contract.
The contract is much deserved. Wilson has the most pass touchdowns in the NFL (69) since 2017, 75 quarterback wins in his first 7 seasons (most in NFL history), 100.3 passer rating (2nd most all-time), 196 Passing TD's in his first 7 seasons (3rd all time behind Dan Marino and Peyton Manning). Wilson was also responsible for 86% of Seattle's offensive output in 2017, he is pressured 37% of time (highest in NFL), hit 386 times on pass plays (most in NFL), has started all 125 games in his career, including the playoffs, Russ leads ALL current NFC quarterbacks with 83 Wins, and he has NEVER had a losing season.
Russ deserves this. Congrats young man, you secured the bag!
