In just his 6th season at the helm, Coach Robert Jones received his 100th win Saturday night at the hands of the Howard Bison. His 100th win makes him the most winning coach in Norfolk State’s Division 1 basketball history, passing up Anthony Evans. To get the 100th win however, the Spartans were in a dog fight against the Bison. The Bison led at halftime 45-30, but came out more aggressive in the second half, pressing on almost every defensive possession until they were down 4. The only time the Spartans led was when Mastadi Pitt hit two free throws when the game was tied 78-78. His shots put the team up 2 with 2.1 seconds left in the game, Coach Jones said, “God is truly good and no accomplishments cant be reached through hard work”. Concluding his statement, he thanked the players, coaches, managers, and staff from over the years he has been at Norfolk State, where he started as an assistant coach 12 years ago.
