We need more people like Trevor Noah! The Comedian and talk show host on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Trevor Noah has committed to paying the salaries of his furloughed workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Noah is doing his show remotely, but is making sure that his 25 employees are being paid, just as he still is. He is making this happen using his OWN money, taking money from his pockets to ensure those that make him go are taken care of. They will be paid their normal salaries until the pandemic goes away and production picks up for the television industry.
A person close to the situation said, “These are the people who have been on the show with Trevor from day one and help him put on the show. Trevor is personally covering their salaries until the production business opens again. He respects his crew tremendously and feels it’s only right that they get through this together.”
Comedy Central announced last week that, as long as he films The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah from inside his apartment, the show will be 45 minutes long instead of its traditional half-hour. It is the first time in the franchise’s history that it has expanded beyond its typical half-hour format.
Extending the program was a no brainer for the channel. The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is the number 1 rated show in late night television among viewers 18-34. At the height of the pandemic, Trevor Noah interviewed Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases which received 43 million views.
Hats off, Trevor. This is a very noble act.
