Many have been rushing to the aide of the Bahamas and their residents. However, a few standout.
Tyler Perry, the actor, filmmaker, film writer, and playwright has chosen to do his part in aiding the residents of the Bahamas. On Instagram, Perry said, "To all the incredible people of the Bahamas who have welcomed me and called me an adoptive son, I want you to know that I am watching closely, and as soon as I can, I will be there to do whatever I can to help you rebuild stronger and better."
Perry chartered his private seaplane carrying hurricane relief supplies to the Abaco islands, one of the most impacted and devastated areas in the Bahamas from the storm. He filled his plane with supplies such as water, diapers, sleeping bags, personal hygiene products, and more to the country. On last thursday, the plane made two trips to the islands and the actor plans to make several more drops of goods to the people who are in need of help.
Adding to the deed, Perry brought back 7 passengers on a return trip which included a pregnant woman, small children and people who needed immediate medical services. The category 5 storm has so far left 45 people dead, with another 100+ missing and the Grand Bahama island in shambles. Abaco was one of the places hit the hardest and a great majority of the island is underwater.
Tyler Perry is not the only person that make a difference making one. Celebrities such as Rihanna, Lenny Kravitz, NBA star Buddy Hield (a Bahamian himself), and Ludacris are going above and beyond in their own right to ensure the people of the island are safe and getting the aid they need. Also, Disney is pitching in to help as well as major cruise lines that almost weekly cruise to the area; Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian are lending helping hands as well. Hampton University is also offering free tuition, room, and board to displaced students who attend the University of the Bahamas from Hurricane Dorian.
