Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa Claims the 2019 Miss Universe Crown

Last night, at the brand new Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, the 2019 Miss Universe competition took place. 90 women represented 90 countries; 15 of which were Black women. Going into the competition, Cheslie Kryst (Miss USA) was an early fan favorite and even down to the end (finishing in the top 10), but another country's Black Girl Magic is what ultimately radiated through the studio to win the competition.

Miss South Africa took home the crown last night becoming the 67th Miss Universe. The 26 year old from Tsolo is an activist the fights against gender-based violence. Her bio on the Miss Universe website says, "She has devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. She is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are." Last night, we were floored by her natural beauty, showing us she is more than just all talk. One Twitter user, @B_is_4Bombshell wrote, "Miss Universe is a South African chocolate woman with natural tresses ! Whew Chile representation is heavy and I am here for IT." With Tunzi's win, this makes South Africa the home of Miss Universe for the 3 time in the pageant's 67 year history, and the second in the last two years, with the country winning in 2017.

Tunzi marveled viewers in her evening gown, swimsuit, and most importantly, with the answers to her questions. She stated, Girls should be taught leadership, to take up space in society." She is not here for women just being another body, but she is representing feminism forward, teaching girls they can be leaders through empowerment. "I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful," she said in her last response. "I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine."

With her win, for the first time in history, Miss America, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss Universe are ALL BLACK WOMEN!!! As Wale said, "Sue me I'm rooting for everybody that's Black."

Congratulations Zozibini, your new Miss Universe. Continue to make a difference in the lives of these young girls your are reaching.
